Belief of Christianity – Original Sin

Belief of Christianity – Original Sin

Introduction

Original Sin is one of the fundamental beliefs of Christianity. According to this belief every human being is born sinner! As we know Adam and eve were first pair of male and female; they were the grandparent of all human beings. When they lived in paradise then once they disobeyed the commandment of God. This event is mentioned in Quran, bible and Hindu scriptures. Bible says that they disobeyed by eating an apple which was prohibited by God. Thus by disobeying God they became sinner. Hence anyone who took birth after them is a born sinner.
Please note: this concept of original sin started in 2nd century. This concept is not to found in Judaism. This concept is directly result of playing with God’s words and using own logic against the natural teachings of God.

Attention

The event of Adam, eve and their disobedience to God is mentioned in Quran also. However there are some differences between this event as taught in Christianity and Islam:

1. As per Christianity by disobeying God Adam and eve became sinner and eventually whole human kind became sinner.

Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all men, because all sinned. Bible (New International Version) Romans 5:12

As per Islam after disobeying, Adam and eve repented for their sin and Almighty God forgave their sin. No human being that came after Adam and eve bears responsibility for what Adam and eve did. Also – no human being is born with sin. Every child is born innocent without any sin.

They (Adam and eve) both replied: "Our Lord! We have wronged our souls. If You do not forgive us and have mercy on us, we shall certainly be of the losers." Quran, Surah Araf 7:23

Then Adam received from his Lord Words. And his Lord pardoned him (accepted his repentance). Verily, He is the One Who forgives (accepts repentance), the Most Merciful. Quran: Surah baqra 2:37

2. As per Christianity death and pregnancy is a punishment for the original sin while Islam does not believe in it at all.

Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all men, because all sinned. Bible (New International Version) Romans 5:12

To the woman he said, "I will greatly increase your pains in childbearing; with pain you will give birth to children. Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you." Bible (New International Version) Genesis 3:16

Propagation of Christianity starts from original sin

An ordinary Christian missionary will tell – “Whoever takes birth in this life is born with sin. So, if that person dies with sin he will go to hell and not get paradise. So what is the solution? In order to get redemption from this sin one need to believe that Jesus Christ was the son of God who died at cross for the sake of mankind. So if anyone wants salvation then just believes in the divinity of Jesus and he will be saved”.
So the order of dawah of Christianity is: original sin----human beings sinner---believe in Jesus who died for the sin of mankind---believe in the resurrection of Jesus.

Original Sin Contradicts logic and common sense

1. If someone commits a crime and police arrest his neighbor or friend for that crime in which they had no role to play – what you call it? Wrong! Injustice! Unethical! Illogical!
Similarly when Adam and eve disobeyed God how it makes me and you sinner? Were we accomplice in this disobedience? Did anyone of us asked Adam and eve to disobey? NO! How we can become sinner if we have not done any crime? It does not go well to any honest person.

2. As per original sin concept since you are a sinner and the ONLY way you can be freed from this sin is by believing in Jesus as son of God. So does it means anyone is free to do any wrong thing, there is no harm in it as long as he believes in Jesus as son of God? Can a person who believes Jesus to be his savior can commit murder of innocents; molest ladies; rob people? Obviously answer will be NO. But why? When – just by believing Jesus as savior all sins will be washed away – why you are prohibiting from these things? So this becomes illogical.

Original Sin Contradicts bible

“The fathers shall not be put to death for the children; neither shall the children be put to death for the fathers: every man shall be put to death for his own sin.”
(Bible - Deuteronomy 24:16)

“The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father; neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him.” (Bible - Ezekiel 18:20)

“But every one shall die for his own iniquity: every man that eateth the sour grape, his teeth shall be set on edge.” (Bible - Jeremiah 31:30)

The above verses of the Bible say that every man will be punished for his own sins and not for others’. It clearly states that one cannot bear the iniquity of the other.

“But he slew not their children, but did as it is written in the law in the book of Moses, where the LORD commanded, saying, The fathers shall not die for the children, neither shall the children die for the fathers, but every man shall die for his own sin.” (Bible - 2 Chronicles 25:4)

According to the above verses of the old testament, the law given in the book of Moses was also the same, i.e. no one should be punished for others sins and no one can bear the iniquity of the other. Many verses can be found from the Bible, which emphasizes this point. Now, let’s read and ponder over the below verse of New Testament.

Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the (way of) prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill.” (Bible - Mathew 5:17)

According to Mathew 5:17, Jesus said that he didn’t come for destroying the previous laws but for fulfilling it, which means Jesus (pbuh) also didn’t change any law or commandment and has been sent to fulfill what the other prophets had brought.

St. Paul contradicts Jesus:

But surprisingly Paul contradicts the above mentioned verses. He says the previous laws and the commandments were useless and unprofitable.

“For there is verily a canceling of the commandment going before for the weakness and unprofitableness thereof. For the law made nothing perfect, but the bringing in of a better hope did; by which we draw nigh unto God.”
(Bible - Hebrews 7:18, 19)

Moreover he says,
“But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter.” (Bible - Romans 7:6)

It is very much unfortunate to know that Paul rejected and cancelled the law given to Moses and the previous prophets and which was also confirmed and fulfilled by Jesus. One should carefully think over the above verse that this verse very much contradict the verses we saw from the various books of Bible and the Law of Moses and Jesus.

Quran is against original sin

Now let’s see what the Qur’an, the last revelation of the God says on this subject.
“And this Qur’an is not such as could ever be produced by other than Allah (Lord of the heavens and the earth), but it is a confirmation of (the revelation) which was before it [i.e. Torah, the Gospel etc.]…” (Qur’an 10:37)

(Note: The Arabic word Allah means ‘the only true God’)
Say: "Shall I seek a lord other than Allah, while He is the Lord of all things? No person earns any (sin) except against himself (only), and no bearer of burdens shall bear the burden of another. Then unto your Lord is your return, so He will tell you that wherein you have been differing." (Qur’an 6:164)

“Whoever goes right, then he goes right only for the benefit of his ownself. And whoever goes astray, and then he goes astray to his own loss. No one laden with burdens can bear another's burden. And I (Allah) never punish until I have sent a Messenger (to give warning)” (Qur’an 17:15)

And no bearer of burdens shall bear another's burden, and if one heavily laden calls another to (bear) his load, nothing of it will be lifted even though he be near of kin…” (Qur’an 35:18)

“…No bearer of burdens shall bear the burden of another. Then to your Lord is your return, so He will inform you what you used to do. Verily, He is the All-Knower of that which is in (people’s) breasts” (Qur’an 39:7)

From the above verses of the Qur’an we can easily understand that Qur’an also sticks on the point that no man bears the sin or the iniquity of the other. In simple words: one who has done any sin will be responsible for his deeds and not others will be responsible for his misdeeds. It confirms what the previous laws and the commandments say. From the above analysis we saw that no man can bear the sin or iniquity of the other.

Conclusion

1. Original sin is one of the fundamental beliefs of Christianity.
2. According to this concept every human being is born sinner; only by believing Jesus savior one can get salvation.
3. Original sin concept is against common sense and logic.
4. It contradicts bible.
5. Every human being is born sinless. Only by wrong action he / she become sinner.
